The River Orchy is one of the most picturesque
salmon rivers in the country. The salmon season runs from February
11 to October 31 and fly, spin and worm are permitted.
A combined catch and release rate of 78% on the
River Awe & Orchy in 2007 allowed an extra 505 fish to spawn. Their
spawning potential is roughly 1.5 million eggs which would otherwise
have been lost to the system.
Fishing Rules
2008
No fish to be taken over 7lbs weight or 26
inches long throughout the season.
All stale and gravid fish to be returned
All fish must be returned after September 1st
Weekly tenants and syndicate members are
allowed to keep two fish per beat per week.
Day ticket anglers are allowed to keep no
more than one fish per visit.
Worm hooks to be barbless or depressed barb
from 1 September.
All rainbow trout to be killed
Notes
1. ADRIA strongly suggests that as well as returning all fish over 7lbs, all fish under this size in good condition should be returned. These are more likely to be successful spawners than those which are underweight or small.
2. Rainbow trout. Large numbers of escaped rainbow trout again appeared in the River Awe and Loch Awe in 2007. Trout farmers have since committed to a number of measures aimed at escape prevention. Rainbow trout caught should be killed and given or reported to the bailiffs, Ewan McLellan, m 07788 671670. Their length, condition and weight will help trout farmers to identify the source of escape and other containment issues.
Failure to comply with the fishing rules will be taken seriously and may result in the Association requesting the Argyll District Salmon Fishery Board to apply to Scottish Minister for madatory powers of enforcement under the Salmon and Freshwater Fisheries (Consolidation)(Scotland) Act 2003, Section 38. Such actions will remove ADRIA’s ability to adjust the fishing rules as circumstances dictate.
Thank you for your support.
From the southern tip of Loch Tulla, the Orchy flows leisurely
in a southerly direction to Bridge of Orchy
before heading southwest to the Auch and Inveroran beats.
